Listen to "Facts" Kanye wests New single
"Facts" is one of just a handful of singles West has released in
2015. "All Day" was officially released in March, and
Rihanna / Paul McCartney collaboration "FourFiveSeconds" was released back in January.
He didn't spend much time of his time working on music, but West had plenty on
his plate this year anyway: he kept making inroads in the world of
fashion, announced he'd run for president in 2020 in an incendiary VMA speech,
and fathered his second child. This is also the second straight year
West's released a single on New Year's Eve: he closed out 2014 with the
sweet, paternal "Only One."
West references his 2015 VMAs election bid ("2020 Imma run the whole
election"), his sneaker success ("I ain't dropped an album but those
shoes went platinum"), Odell Beckham, Jr. and LeBron James. The hook
("Yeezy, Yeezy, Yeezy just jumped over Jumpman") references Future and
Drake's hit "Jumpman."
The 38-year-old rapper was particularly harsh on Nike in “Facts.”
“Nike out here so bad, they can’t give s--t away,” he declares in one
lyric, later adding, “Nike, Nike treat employees just like slaves / Gave
LeBron a billi’ not to run away.”
But it wasn’t all harsh
words. The fashion designer also gave his famous family a few
shout-outs. “Plus Kimoji just shut down the App Store, uh! And we made a
million a minute,” he brags about wife Kim Kardashian’s incredibly popular emoji app, which crashed Apple’s online store when her package of icons launched on December 22.
Daughter North, 2, also got a mention from her daddy in the tune: “Ten thousand dollar fur for Nori, I just copped it, yo!”
Kim also shared a cute pic of North and Saint West holding hands
West is expected to release his upcoming seventh album, Swish, sometime in 2016. He has not yet announced a date.
